How picky would they be? For example, the copy of my birth certificate that I got from NY a long time ago has my first name misspelled. Would that disqualify me because it doesn't match?

Yes. I don't know about New York law, but in some states, the only way to fix that is to file a lawsuit for a court-ordered correction of the spelling on your birth certificate.
This is not about ensuring a person is who they claim to be. This is about creating barriers to voting in ways that will disproportionately disenfranchise poor, young, and minority voters (i.e., voters who tend to favor Democrats).
I think they are asking for the original birth certificate with the actual seal on it. I don’t think they’re gonna take copies.
And if you don’t have it, you don’t vote. It’s exactly what this bill is intending to do.
Like my full name doesn't fit on any of my IDENTIFICATION Cards, DL, SS Card, etc. it only appears in full on my Birth Certificate, I'm worried w/ my BC & my last name, Vargas will flag me.
Although my family history shows that my sister and I are the 12th gen Americans my last name is Portuguese
I have 5 names on my BC, look my parents fought a lot so they both got 2 pick 2 names, Christopher William Earl Vaniah Vargas, Vaniah often gets cut off on my IDs.
I just hope that I pass. Because despite having a multiethnic background, I appear Caucasian, but my last name could get me deported

(if I'm understanding this hot mess right)
