I couldn't disagree more. It is nothing to do with control and everything to do with children's well-being. In fact the reverse is true. The tech companies are seeking ever more insidous to hook young customers on their products to the detriment of their well-being.

It's also a very inexpensive form of entertainment for families that can't let their kids be seen unattended outside and can't afford more organized afterschool activities. Kids who take public transport often use their phones as tickets. If you have an emergency in public, there are no pay phones!
