They are *scholars*, they will *write papers* defending institutions which can be authored and read anywhere. They are not in positions to hold up their institutions.

That’s not what’s at stake. Academic faculty wield social and institutional power at their schools. What they write is irrelevant, much to the chagrin of other intellectuals who conceitedly believe in the power of their pen.
I mean, it depends. Some (most!) people know more than I do, so I value their opinion over my own. Right now we're under a tornado watch and I figure the meteorologists probably know what they're doing so I'm going to listen to them if they say to go into the basement.
Social sciences are not physical sciences and you shouldn’t let people convince you otherwise about their predictive power. Especially not Yale professors hawking books.
Go read some of that account's other replies. They consistently function as a scourge against those who oppose fascism. All their energy is spent griping at people "on their side". I'm not saying they're astroturfing fragmentation on the left. But what would they do differently if they were?
