Musk's primary appeal is to rather dim right-wing guys who don't know a lot, and don't want to learn, but have strong opinions and confidence in them. They see Musk expressing the same opinions and, because he's rich, they treat this as confirming his opinions are correct, and thus so are theirs.

I’ve literally had people tell me that before on various social media.
“He’s rich and successful, he knows what he’s talking about.”
The problem is that Musk has so many conflicts of interest.
I disagree with nearly everything he thinks. But it’s a free country: he can think those things; the problem is his use of his platform
