Absolutely! I remember my boyfriend (eventually husband) left a party early to get back to mine to watch the first show. It became a ritual for many years.
I’d like to have seen more about the original case but I get that many of us who remember (I was pretty young) are not the demo they want to keep engaged.
Less wedding vow renewals and more wild and crazy guys you have a point. Hardly any coneheads or Belushi and the stuff that really put them on the map. Still I recognized scene after scene. Not hating I needed that actually.
This brought back so many memories.
I was 15 when SNL first aired. For the next 10 years almost every Saturday night we were at someone's house (usually the basement) getting stoned and watching it.
Loving it so hard!! Watched the music documentary yesterday and the concert this morning. EPIC!! I got in the jacuzzi, so I’m a little behind on the show right now. (Miley killing Nothing Compares 2U.)
I couldn’t help but shed a few tears thinking of all the great comedians we’ve lost from that show, too.
It was great though to escape reality for a few hours.
I know, right? I've religiously watched SNL since like the mid 80s so I appreciated the mountain of familiar faces and revisiting familiar characters and sketches.
I have been watching it since it came on, well from around the corner while my parents watched it back then. Oh my gosh I am going to watch it again this week - I recorded it.
lol! 😂. I swear she makes up those lines as she goes. I just love that skit. Where was Timberlake doing the BeeGees though? It was upsetting not seeing them do that one!
I know they had to pack a LOT of history in. But during the Q&A with Poehler and Fey. It would have been neat to ask Elvis Costello about catching a ban and getting back on, then cut to Lee Ving with both middle fingers raised. Yeah I am that old..
I watched up until 11 o’clock when the news came on. I really enjoyed what I saw. I was right there when the first show was on, and I still am laughing at the same stuff. Just keeps giving you laughs… Sort of like the Three Stooges, but more thoughtful.
Watched the first episode today, and honestly I found most of it kinda lame. Of course when it first aired, I'm sure it was hilarious. The moving blanket in the bass drum was funny, Billy Preston band. They sounded great 👍
Thought that was a terrible way to follow a promising opening. Went on too long after we got the joke for a night with a lot to get to. So many others didn’t get to be onstage
Absolutely loved the show. Think about all the great comedians. In the past few decades, all got their start right there on SNL. Just think how boring our life would be if we allowed maga republicans to control what we watch.
Not a soul whispered how she left the city for brotherly love for the arms of the man whose fans brought tuberculosis with him to Big Easy. So many jokes running through my mind about this one.
The concert is fantastic as well. Brandi Carlisle, David Byrne covering Heroes, Mumford and Sons... almost every performance sounds like a call to persevere, resist, and rise
Omg, the alien abduction skit... PRICELESS. Woody Harrelson was great and was hilarious to watch him get used as a hat and try his damnedest not to fall over laughing at his situation.
Am finally a fan of Stevie Nicks's protege, Miley Cyrus. She has a soulful voice. Not a Snoop Dogg fan..He performed at DUMP's coronation. What a fool. He must be in it for the tax break.
All of us artsy “stoner” kids in high school LIVED for our SNL parties every Saturday. Crazy that it’s been fifty years. Laughed til I cried tonight at the alien abduction and bridesmaids & groomsmen skits.
I remember watching the first episode.
I was like 17. It was amazing. We had a show called The Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack, if I remember right. But SNL was different. I’ve been a fan ever since, even when there were a few years of it not being great, I still watched.
That is why I love SNL and that always make me laugh at stupid politics or silly things that most are sadly true. Former Presidents laughs at their antics and mocks but Trump and MAGA took too serious grudges against SNL.
I miss the commercials. One of my favorites ended with,
"It'll behoove ya to care for your uvula."
The day it aired, my Aunt had come into town. Her first reaction was, "GET A DICTIONARY!!"
Was totally disappointed in the show. While some of the skits were super funny, I was hoping to see clips of the old days - classic stuff. I feel like they didn't do enough of that.
No , cmon it was good. Some cringey skits.eddie Murphy as Tracy Morgan had me roaring. The whole black jeopardy was funny. Adam sandler song had me crying. They did it right
I can’t watch it. I will cry for better moments and then all of a sudden I think of death, my kids my dogs and the ugly crying begins. Will watch it in short hunks.
I remember watching the very first show in 1975. I was a senior in high school and 50 years later, I'm still tuning in. Congratulations Saturday Night Live on 50 years of laughter. Thanks for the memories. 🩷😁🎉
It was better than I thought it would be although there were some characters I would’ve liked to revisited, but we weren’t on - Stefon and Scarlett Johansson with Fred Armisen
On Showcase - there is a special on the behind the scene of sketch building. More Cowbells is so insanely funny to see what went on to produce the sketch.
Just incredible. The concert on the 14th was the most amazing shows I've ever seen. So many of the greatest performers of the past 50 years. So much pure joy on the stage and in the audience. Brandi Carlile, Cher and Gaga were absolute perfection. Questlove and the Roots killed, too.

All the documentaries are also fabulous

Comedy is Art that relies on timing. That was a masterpiece.
"I'm taking a few hours off from raging madness to watch SNL Fifty. I've already laughed more in 15 minutes than I have in 5 months."
