Ron Karkovice came in like every Topps pack I ever opened in the early 90's 🫡. The mindblower for me: Buck Showalter was 36 when he started managing the Yankees in '92 and was basically the same age as George in Seinfeld.
Wait, are we talking about the horrific aging of old baseball players? Then I'd like to talk about how Ray Chapman died from getting hit by a pitch at age 29, meaning that his photo was taken some time before then, leading me to question if we can be sure it was the pitch that did it.
That really is so true! Every time I look at old baseball cards, young guys looked so much older than they do today, I thought I was the only one who felt this
His brother co-owns a Thai restaurant in Tampa, Florida. I walked in wearing a white Sox t-shirt once and he goes “Ever hear of Ron Karkovice?” And I said something like “catcher, late eighties, early nineties?” And he goes “Yeah, he’s my brother.”
Note: This is not just an American thing. The man on the right was playing in the Premier League while bearing an uncanny resemblance to Frank Sobotka from The Wire.
