Major disagree with everything in orange.
It's fine alongside the recognition that it's Kat's opinion, and not based on any sort of evidence. I'm a center left liberal Dem voter for my entire life and I don't support any of that -- and don't know any other moderates who do.
if nothing else, them doing nothing is the issue. but also, there have been a lot of “moderates” being willing to compromise on things like trans rights and/or caving under the smallest amount of pressure when trump threatens them
random (old) example of throwing trans-people under the bus:
When anyone on the left says trans rights, what does that mean, precisely? Because I see that phrase, but I don’t see a specific set of policy points that encapsulates what it means. It is a wedge issue, especially as it real to minors, so I’m trying to understand what being thrown under 🚌 means.
When one of the anti-Democrat activists says something as ignorant as "Democrats do nothing" that is a clear sign that they are actually an anti-democracy activist or have been brainwashed into becoming a useful idiot for them which is basically the same thing.
* Legal name change
* Legal gender marker change
* No forced surgery for ID change
* Anti-discrimination laws
* Hate crime protection
* Right to seek asylum due to risk from trans status
* Access to hormone therapy
* Access to gender-affirming surgeries
* Respectful, trained medical staff
A centrist is fine with a lot of what goes on around them from both sides. If you no longer want to allow these actions, isn't it saying you should be stepping further left?
That’s the thing -- why does everyone assume the way you beat hideous illiberal right wing ideas is to just move further left? It doesn’t take more polarization to create balance.
I believe energetic, younger liberals with great ideas and passion are out there.
The problem is where they have moved the political scale. The center is no longer in the middle ... they are pulling it right with their policies and what society accepts.
There is no center-left zionism. It's explicitly fascist and eugenecist.
Also, lol at "center-left liberal Dem" into "...other moderates". Just giving away the whole game that you're just playing with words and don't believe a single thing you say.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Everything to the right of Democrats today are Fascism. Calling people to the right of Democrats "center" is a laughable misuse of the word.
Trump’s cult is radicalizing me. Not centrist now! I want to put an end to this craziness. Then I want to build in safeguards so that our country never becomes a fascist state.
I'm not sure what's more disturbing, the fact that some people think they can just "weather the storm" or the fact that they're oblivious to the fact that the storm is already here.
I got off easy I'm gay they only cut the suicide crisis line for teenagers. Oh and they laughed and mocked. Essentially they would like if I killed myself, the sooner the better.
Tbf, that's always been the "center." They've always been right leaning in their politics, and the moment they get criticism, they go further right and claim that the other side became "too extreme" and pushed them to basically become fascists. Don't expect any sense from these people.
everyone in america, at some point over the next two decades, is going to be either a fascist or a commie, as soon as those words stop being bad language. my advice is to pick early what side you're on!!
when the opinion is "no human being is inherently lesser for who they fundamentally are and it is not acceptable to treat them as lesser under any circumstance..." yes. i think everyone should have to live by that.
it's more like... don't excuse shitty treatment and/or the culling of minorities as part of a "compromise". those things are extreme, no one's human rights should ever be on the table for debate. but it seems like many centrists lean more one way without admitting it.
If your opinion is "it's acceptable to strip minorities of their dignity as a bargaining chip" then yes I think you should have to live by the opposite of that
Human rights *must* apply to everyone, or to nobody at all. There is zero room for "only some people get rights". If you don't believe in the universality of human rights then you are a fascist collaborator and you are an enemy of our entire species.
I remember when the Bush Jr era conservatives were talking about how demographics in the US were shifting away from white, Anglo-Saxon, protestants. They've been building for this the whole time
Yeah, anecdotally, it sure seems like centrists figure they are sufficiently comfortable to weather the ensuing storm and think everyone else is similarly situated. That’s my experience.
Many Dems have spent 30 years moving right to get on that sweet corporate teat. Giving up has paid off nicely for them, personally. They don't know how to do anything else. Primaries.
Loved this tidbit: “Like, we needed help building furniture, building a bunch of shelves. We had 8 dudes that showed up. They barely talked to me. They just wanted to build shelves. And this is part of what we need, creating community spaces where people can exist w/o spending$ and w/o judgment.”

Trans people are one set of people whose human rights need to be protected.
The idea is to protect human rights for all people, even those who have been vilified by those who seek to inflict cruelty on the least fortunate.
Stopping it will require moving left now.

Staying silent allows it to continue. The center will have to start objecting to what the right wants to make middle of the road and acceptable.

I've never seen anything like this shit.
