I'm sorry to admit that I never knew of Chun while he was in power. This book changed that! I think that authoritarian governments find success in pitting people against each other. In the case of the US it seems that our legal system is being exploited for it's weaknesses.... 1/

... Our legal system clearly rests on a level of respect to it. We clearly have an admin now that doesn't play by those rules. This is an internal threat that needs to be reckoned with.

Agent OK’s perspective struck me. Serbian activist Srdja Popovic described police as people who do the job they were hired to do and I feel like Agent Ok showed that. It looked like he was “catching bad guys” so he could get transferred. I wonder if he could have switched sides. 🤔

There will always be people like Chun, and there will always be a need for our communities to rise up and assert our rights. It seems to be that these men are all the same, with a need for constant attention by any means necessary.

I hope humanity can recover that sort of community someday. We live in this time of screens. We are more isolated than we know. This isolation can be exploited w/ lies and misinformation.
