My first King was a short story called Word Processor of the Gods in 1983. I have been a fan since. I have never read this one before, so I was intrigued when it was listed as a banned book. I like King’s style and this one didn’t disappoint.

I fell in love with his writing when I was in junior high school. His descriptive writing allowed me to "see" his characters and the spaces they occupied. I could "hear" Carrie's mother, Pennywise, Jack, the town... and I can "hear" the forest in this book, too.

Took me 65 years before I began reading SK as I associated him with horror of which I wasn’t a big fan. Saw Fairy Tale @ store, took a gamble & have never looked back. This man’s creativity & writing style amazes me! Trisha’s ordeal was a great addition to my SK collection. Thanks!

I've read most of King's popular novels: Carrie, The Shining, Pet Sematary, Christine, Misery, Dolores Claiborne, The Stand, Under the Dome, Thinner, The Green Mile, and I love his memoir: On Writing, and more, but Needful Things had a complex plot, archetypal characters, and was an exciting read.

I have read several Stephen King novels. I was into them as a teenager—but he has written a lot more since then! My favourites are Pet Sematary and It; I tend to go for the supernatural horrors. Tom Gordon fits into a grouping of person vs. nature novels, and I thought it was…okay. 1/2

Mainly, I didn’t really connect with the main character. It seems like he was trying to translate his frequently used “boy growing up in the ‘50s” main character into another time and gender. I didn’t think it worked. 10yo girls don’t talk like that.

I’ve read a number of King’s books especially during his early writing career.

All of the books I’ve read of his have a supernatural and/or spiritual/mystical underlying element.

I tend to avoid the more obvious horror books after I read The Shinning in the 70s and couldn’t sleep for days.

I've read many King novels; and I find that I enjoy the more realistic horror stories that he puts out. i.e. Dolores Claiborne, Misery and the novella A Good Marriage. Trisha's story ranks up there with these personal favorites.

I have read everything King has written. I often suggest The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon to folks who think all he writes is horror and gore. My favorites are IT, 11/22/63 and Carrie. I have an entire shelf system full of my King novels.

I'm a life-long fan of Stephen King. This one reminds me of The Long Walk, with its focus on the inner dialog of a person in isolation going through an extreme ordeal.

I had never read a Stephen King novel, which surprises me, actually! I've watched series and movies based on his books, though. I enjoyed this novel, I love a good thriller. After reading this, I plan to add his novels to my 'to read' list, and I'm open to suggestions of where to start!

I really really don't like horror so avoid any movies, series, and books, though I'm now reading his less horror books, this one and working my way through The Stand. I plan on reading 11/22/63 and Different Seasons.

11/22/63 is my favorite. I put off reading it for years due to its length, but when I finally read it, I absolutely loved it. I also really enjoyed reading the Gwendy books.

11/22/63 is spectacular, in my opinion. King is fascinated with the killing of JFK, but there is also a love story in it that brought me to tears.

It was my first Stephen King book. I know he writes more than just horror, but as a Stephen King movie adaptation I saw too young kind of scared me away from horror, I avoided his books my whole life. It was a great introduction and opened my mind to reading some more (but not all) of his books.

I’ve read several other novels by Stephen King - Misery, Nightmares & Dreamscapes, The Bachman Books, and Holly.

Honestly, this book really reminded me of Stand By Me - the film adaptation of King’s 1982 novella, The Body (which I have not read yet).

Yes, Carrie was my favorite, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is tied with The Shining for second favorite.
Carrie and The Shining were more obviously horror.
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is a subtle horror story, and it’s all the more frightening because the reader doesn’t realize it’s horror

The thing about The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is that it is quite plausible that it could happen to anyone, meaning getting lost in the woods/wilderness, and has happened IRL, whereas books like Carrie and The Shining are very not likely to happen IRL.
