It's a slow novel. It unfolds. Like a game of baseball, you have to stick with it. I loved that it was arranged in innings (or parts of innings). I think the pace makes sense if the reader is familiar with baseball.

The pacing of a baseball game really did mirror the novel, as well as the stakes. The first few innings, you are just starting the game, not too worried yet about every run or strike. Later in the game, every play feels crucial.

I really enjoyed the structure, although it did take a few chapters to get into it. It felt like the right way to tell the story from a youths perspective. The ability to be distracted or soothed by something like the radio, scared by something unknown, the hurt but love felt for family.

It was from third person perspective, through Patricia, aka Trish, and also 3rd person omniscient. It supported the novel, by showing all the different perspectives seamlessly when Trisha got lost . There was lots of imagery used , as well, which enhanced the narrative

The perspective allowed knowledge of the near miss and some of the mistakes made when trying to find her way home.
