I don’t know how to make something not be a “liberal bubble” without inviting hate and nationalism. Which honestly makes me think that living in a “liberal bubble” is something the entire earth should be striving for.

Not everything to the Right of Liberalism (in the American sense) is racist though. I’d be happier if there was a place without the racists & anti democrats, but where libertarians & conservatives could argue with Left liberals & progressives (with centrists asking them all to get along).
Yes, I hear what you’re saying. I think the bigger issue is that conservative and libertarian thinking, even if it’s just about the economy or taxes or whatever, leads one to keep taking steps towards hate, division, and isolationist thinking. Which becomes social and hurtful real quick.
The libertarian folks I knew all ended up being standard conservatives who thought weed should be legal. They gave lip service to almost every other area of freedom to seem tolerable. Trump and the tech bros gave them their out.
Right, and I think one of the biggest issues I’ve learned over the years is that right leaning tax and economic policy eventually leads to right wing social thinking due to its idea of isolation and individualism. On the surface it’s great, in practice it leads to the things we see today.
And they can make similar kinds of slippery slope arguments about progressivism & socialism: They lead to collectivism & totalitarian systems in which individuals are crushed for the Greater Good. If you take these arguments too far, you’ll end up wanting to ban all but your own POV.
Yes, totally agree with you. I think the difference is there has never been a modern government that has attempted liberal socialism. It’s always corrupt and working for only a few. I’m not sure if it’s even possible sadly. We have though seen plenty of modern examples of authoritarianism.
All I see here - in this comment thread - is diversity. Which sort of disapproves the point @mcuban.bsky.social tried to make - no? I would concede that there is a lack of volume however on Bluesky; but that should not be conflated with lack of diversity.
Right, I think he wants more sports teams and diverse media. Which yeah, I think a lot of people would welcome that. But we won’t stand for hate and nationalism. People can disagree on typical matters, but you can’t tell anyone they mean less than you.
Back on Twitter/X, I would get attacked from the Right and Left, by Turkish and Greek and Kurdish nationalists. Here, I only ever get invectives hurled at me from the Left, and then often quite radical Left. (I still prefer BlueSky to X tho.)
Well, there are stupid on both sides, thou I do concede that I also see one side of the stupid here. But in terms of stupid-volume-meter it is better to have only half of them hurling I guess.
But if diversity means having Alex jones /Steve Bannons alike here then I prefer it as it is.

The social right can stay over on the other site. I don't need to see 90 posts under a business Pride Month post saying "when is straight month?".
