I’m gonna propose the chimney swift — they nest in chimneys and migrate seasonally through the Caribbean. They also spend most of their lives airborne, and thus fit the “never going to land” idea from S2.

If location is no issue, i’d suggest a Robin. Here, they appear especially when someone dies (Izzy?) and are said to be messengers from the spirit world. They’re associated with happiness, joy, good luck, strong marriages, re-birth and the ending of an old phase with the promise of something new.

Birds of paradise. Their plumage will make both Ed and Stede nostalgic for Stede's colourful wardrobe. However, they're soon taking turns attempting to imitate the mating dances. They end up on the ground in hysterics, which prompts Stede: "Couldn't have done this in my old clothes!"

These are the species I recorded when I was there. My top picks for nesting in the sand near the inn would be a Variable Oystercatcher or a Red-breasted Dotterel! Also, a Welcome Swallow might nest in a hole in their siding/eves.
