The Trump administration claims that expanding oil and gas drilling would help lower grocery costs. In reality, increasing American oil production—which is already booming—would have little to no effect.

There are countless oil and gas leases sitting unused on the market because even corporations don’t want to drill. Keep your hands off our public lands. #FactsMatter
He may use the tariffs on Columbia to justify more drilling, but additional drilling won't help. The US imports Columbian oil because it US refiners need it to blend with oil derived from fracking in order to produce the grade of crude that US refineries are designed to process.
It’s not about drilling it’s a land grab to sell it off to corporations and private citizens. They believe it’s more important to put houses or businesses there than to protect and preserve the land.
Trump really wants to damage everything and everyone because he’s a loser who lost in 2000 so now it’s “payback”. It’s shortsighted, self-centered. Keep up the fight!
Transportation is 5% of the cost of groceries. Gas is a component of that 5% as vehicles and labor are the other cost. So let's say gas is half of the cost or 2.5%. Cut the cost of gas in half is 1.25% so if trump destroys the environment and cuts the price of gas you save 1.25 cents on every $1
He’s gonna use and abuse every resource in this country to make himself and his cronies richer while promising to lower grocery prices which it never will.
I saw a chart that suggested a lot of domestic oil was mostly exported. And if we increase drilling here, it’s probable that OPEC would just decrease production to keep prices higher. A dump president with dumb ideas that his dumb cult followers swallow hook line and sinker.
Almost all US domestic oil is light crude and cannot be processed in domestic refineries without major overhaul, thus nearly all are purely exports. Domestic refineries process heavy crude, as produced by Canada and Venezuela. Wonder how tariffs will impact domestic fuel costs
The impact of climate change will only increase the cost of food as farmers continue to face more and more severe weather extremes. The petulant brat knows nothing of growing food and how climate change is exacerbating crop failures around the globe.
And with all this drilling, let’s not forget that per geologic record 10F increase in global temperature triggers human extinction. We are currently experiencing 3F increase or 30% of the target. The felon who wants to “Make America Great Again” could very well, instead, accelerate humanity’s decline
Maybe it’s just me but if I stand back and think where more oil will be applied for use. I can only think of the military. Instruments of war and intimidation and yes, a slight reduction in our energy and gas usage costs.
Our energy prices have little to do with the amount of crude we produce here since the vast majority of it gets exported. Our refineries are not designed to process what we pull from our oil fields, light crude. It's less expensive for us to import heavy crude for processing. At least for the moment
The oil companies can already drill five times more than they choose to with what they 'own' already, the choke point if any given their advertised huge profits, regarding fuel prices and supply are the refineries storms keep wrecking and they see fit to neither protect nor rebuild.
They know this. They care about he messaging, not the results. They can keep prices where they are and tell their flock they're magically lower now. And the flock will believe them.
Or blame the fact that they haven't decreased on whatever flavor of hate is popular in that given movement. It's all theater to keep their base angry at the right people
And if it miraculously does so, it's going to take months or years after hundreds of millions or billions of dollars of infrastructure and operations development which themselves are going to hurt financially one way or another.
It'll have zero effect because grocery prices are manipulated by the agriculture industries and retail grocery giants to maximize profits regardless of external factors. Even avian flu is an exploitable opportunity, just like covid. Line must always go up. Capitalism = profiteering.
Little to no effect? I disagree. It would be a step in the wrong direction, controbuting needlessly to climate catastrophe, which will exacerbate resource shortages.
And his followers will believe him because they are not willing to research what he says. They just sit there and eat up the hot steaming BS he shovels.
They know but the cult doesn’t. They use it as an excuse to push their agenda. When the prices stay high, they will just blame it on whoever they want.
Just another page of the fascism playbook
He just doesn't understand, or care about basic economics. Oil prices can only drop so much before oil producers cut production. Oil companies are only in business to make as much money as they can for their shareholders.
Correct. Oil companies aren't going to drill themselves into lower profit margins. They'll ship excess off to places that will continue to pay >$70 a barrel. Also, they're already sitting on leases of millions of acres that they haven't even touched yet.
More importantly, the big banks and investment funds won’t finance new drilling as the ROI on the known oil patches not currently being extracted from have no viable profit margin. It’s all bluff and bluster amounting, once again, to nothing.
They're like that guy from an old joke, who finds a magic lamp. The genie will grant his wish but the condition is that his neighbor will get twice as much.
So the guy says, "Genie, beat me half to death."
They don't care how hard they have it as long as 'those people' have it worse.
New to BlueSky here, I need help. Who is good with AI images? I need an image of a defiant teacher holding onto a student protectively with the caption “Out of My Cold Dead Hands.”
Commission an artist. If you can't/won't do that, use legit stock images. If you can't/won't do that, scribble a sketch on some notebook paper. It'll still be miles better than AI shart.
True…what so many people do not realize is that O&G has over 6000 already approved and ready to go leases. rec’d under Biden and Ytump 1.0 and are NOT drilling on these leases because it doesn’t make economic sense. It’s just all a show to his base and unfortunately for too many non base voters
Stopping wind investment is going to devastate the Gulf coast! We need to break the petrochemical industries' strangle hold on our fisheries! Now our best hope is frozen.

Thanks for reporting on what they are doing. We should notice each of their actions. But, everything they say is just lies and hypocrisy.
11/2019: 12,994,000 (peak during trump, before COVID)
1/2021: 11,152,000 (Biden's first month)

….it’s always something else to destroy… sad. 😔
These costs are incurred to the locals detriment.
