●Pay attention to lighting. Try not to shade in black (not always applicable)
● Don't be afraid to use references!
●Don't force it. Sometimes the spirit just ain't there.
Also with not forcing it I will say, often your mistakes are not as noticeable as you think. Sometimes having things a little off can be better than adding too much detail to try and fix it
Sometimes, I'll look at a finished piece and notice something is off or wonky (anatomy, color, shapes, line weight).
I used to freak out about it. Now I just make a note of it for the next piece.
Also, take time to set up an Action/hotkey for tasks you do frequently.
NAME YOUR LAYERS!
After that, I slap on a 3D model and shape it as close as I can - that is then my reference for the pose !
This way I have a colour palette chosen and can better view the composition before even getting started!
seems like it works well w 3D model refs like in ur example too 👀✨️
Prior to this, Id finish a sketch and feel unmotivated to push forward with the rest
and i get that with being unmotivated, i have. so many accidentally abandoned sketches oops. but fr ty!
might not work for everyone but it has been really working for me, hell have times where i just used the cleaned up sketch as the lineart and those pieces have been some of my personal favs c:
I hope they had a thing where we can replace the head of the model with one we customize but other then that, it cuts back on hours of sketching/looking up references.
I know some people think it's cheating and...I don't care anymore. I have a story to tell.
And the improvements to model controls make it so much better.
I'm still in need of Old West aesthetic stuff, which is harder to find right now, but boy, oh, boy. I really want to shift back to my comic.
Speaking of Old West, yesterday I saw some in the "Top Free" section of the store. If you didn't catch them, they're still there for me as "Western style" or "Western building"
I don't have the resources to hire a BG artist right now but soon...SOON D':
The ONLY thing I want is to be able to take the head off the base figure and replace it to build up my own 3D characters. And more variety of sliders but still 10/10 fantastic tool.
Color theory is still important but since I’m learning this I easier for my nerves.
The amount of difference simply tapering loose edges made is astounding.
Maybe I am just a beginner stating obvious rules, but I did wish I had known sooner
(there are other improvement here too, I know but it was the best pics I had)
It's a fun way to introduce a pattern to an object, as well as letting me walk it back easier if I want to "undo" the decision 2,3 hours of work later!
Create the main shape in a block colour and then creating a clipping mask above to do all you blending and painting on it.
Allows the painterly quality but crisp that you don’t lose your composition. Also saves time building values because you already have a base.
Grandient maps were a HUGE one for me Buuut
If you use CSP you can make a selection from the layer by holding Ctrl and clicking the icon of the layer! That shit is a HUGE!!
Embrace the messy! It ads life, energy and personality! (I suck at following my own advice lol) 🌟
