So if things have gotten that bad, it's way worse for power-holders, because people with nothing to leverage against them, and no stake in the status quo are more likely to say 'fuck you'. I guess there's not really a 'plan' or anything, but it still seems weird things are allowed to get so bad.

This is armchair psych but I feel like it's one of the oldest human compulsions, to amass wealth with your tribe at the cost of all others, like this is the fairest time in all of human history and it's not all that fair, we're trying to evolve from 'a small group rules and is basically infinitely/

/rich and everyone else is varying shades of poor'. The rich will accept levels of decay to hold onto their class power; places like Russia, Belarus, Hungary, Brazil are all terribly hamstrung by corruption but the rich there still live luxuriously, there are ways to get more proles
