saying this separate instead of in hbomb's replies so I don't get dogpiled by Gamers™ - maybe forcing people onto newer hardware now of all times by requiring raytracing in games is a bad fucking idea

also let's be honest, this disproportionately benefits nvidia. the game certainly doesn't look all that much better than eternal, which released half a decade ago
do you have any idea how much newer nvidia cards cost?
"but it's a destructible environment, it needs raytraced lighting"
I mainline games with dynamic environments. they've existed for well over 10 years, and pre-date this obsession with raytracing. space engineers and roblox have *incredibly* dynamic environments
raytracing does look fucking pretty, and yes, it's easier to implement than rasterised pipelines, but either wait until it's actually standard and performant on most hardware or until we're out of a global recession and tariff war before forcing it.
no comment on how well doom supposedly runs it, I'll have to see it with my own eyes to believe it. I don't like fast paced shooters and there's still a microsoft boycott, so that's not happening
For real tho, I respect games that are capable of targeting much older and lower power systems (even if they also support super new next gen graphics) much more
