I'm on a visit home and had a weird fall yesterday and needed stitches but please god why was I waiting over SEVEN hours in A&E the Mater on five measly stitches

He's there to act as a sop for people whinging about the state of the place while he is on over half a million laughing at his good fortune. He is part of the problem.
The fact that there is nobody in Mater A&E directing people to the right place for the treatment they need is mind boggling. It's in nobody's interests for you to be sitting in A&E for 7 hours, especially when there's another option round the corner. Hope you're OK BTW!
'twas ever thus - a friend cut his leg badly back in the '80s and went to the Meath - there were no seats left in the waiting area, he passed out and cracked his head on a radiator.
I don't know where you are geographically, but last time I had to go to A&E the nurses were rushed off their feet, and the doctor looked as if he hadn't slept in a week. The NHS has been underfunded for so long!
