I think we need a new format/rules for an award recognizing rising PL players. Having guys with 111 (Elanga), 89 (Pedro), 87 (Palmer) and 99 PL appearances (Saliba) up for what's ostensibly an award meant to nominate rising talent feels a little icky - ThreadSky

One idea would be to have the age maximum and *also* cut out anyone with >50 PL appearances. This season that would make room for the likes of Lewis-Skelly, Dibling, Minteh, Wharton etc

Definitely better, I think the age cutoff might be a little low bc someone like Morgan Rogers gets cut out and I think that's a good nomination

NHL style rookie of the year award could work. Think its first season with 25+ games or something like that. Then again NHL awards are the best in sports in general any league worth their salt should just steal them all. I need the Steven Gerrard trophy for worst mistake leading to a goal to exist.

yeah, tying it more to being established or not and less to age. probably put an upper limit on age though so a newly signed 25-yo from the Bundesliga can't win it 😂

Yeah given other leagues at similar levels exist unlike the NHL you'd need some qualifiers. Then again a separate proper PL rookie award for anyone would be nice to have. We need more awards and actual trophies for them it's just more fun.

It’s a strange award. James Milner once won it after his 7th full season as a PL regular. We need a ‘Rookie’ of the year, i.e. U21, first season with more than 10 appearances, or something like that. Otherwise it’s just Player of the Year without the 25+ folk.

Break out star award. Had to be under 21, and can only qualify if it's their first season that they have made more than 12 appearances.
