Being hospitalized is a failure condition too! Focusing on deaths trivializes the risk and burden and trauma. It's never okay to preventably send a child into intensive care.

Until it is everybody every day that thinks themselves exempt from enduring the burden of the collective.
But the brain can also be remarkably plastic, and not all GSW to the head are equally traumatic, and may not directly involve brain damage. Even still, a maimed face, loss of vision/taste/smell/hearing, etc seems a grim price for survival.
And brain damage from swelling, blindness, a weird nervous infection years after measles itself, and can cause premature children if a pregnant person gets it.
