Whoa! When I said ruddy I meant like a muddy, purpled red. The lipstick red was surprising. I had NO idea there were showy ones like that, and I take pride in identifying and cultivating our locally native flora.
The variety there—I presume due to growing conditions—seems much more elegantly built.
Wow! They're so delicate there. And bloom so late in Vermont. Trillium grandiflorum is very abundant here in East Tennessee, and it's one of the first to bloom even among our springtime ethereals.

I took them as a normal spring plant like daffodils.
I didn't realize trilliums only grew in specific environments until I left.
