Paint can swingers paint for the video. It's performance art, the task is more important than the resulting object, but something's off. It's an artist preforming the culture's idea of artist. It's part cultural regurgitation/mimicry and part "content" which may be why it gives me the ick.

Surely there are interesting paintings being made using similar techniques, and I'm sure there are great paint-can artists out there. I guess the question is, what is it about making art for social media that devalues it? Is it because it's the painting equivalent of soap cutting or slime?

I think the motives are what makes it icky. Views number go up. Ad revenue money go up. Make slop for dopamine scrolling.
