They still do single sex (male) research in animal trials to minimize variables. Though, some are using spayed females to be more inclusive.

The fact that medications, procedures, and treatments have excluded women because researchers thought it made things "too complicated," then recommended them to be used on women sans secondary studies, shows patriarchal contempt has deep roots in STEM.

If anything the thalidomide disaster just highlights the importance of including women in the testing of drugs. Not testing on women “of child bearing age” because we are scared of what might happen is really backwards and irresponsible.
