Testing out Davinci for editing and I think I hate it. Can anyone tell me how to make projects NOT start at 1 hour in? Apparently this is a visual thing but who tf thought this was a good idea? looks like ass and stresses me out.

apparently this is a convention hauled all the way from the *tape era *. y'know, back when syncing against negative timecodes was physically impossible.
100% they only kept this around for historical reasons. it has no relevance today
I would also recommend using the edit tab instead of the cut tab. Cut tab is just a more limited version of the edit tab designed for higher ups at studio to remove or change the order of scenes.
if u want, I could hop in a voice call sometime and help talk u through the basics! I just finished my first video with the program so I get that it's daunting but it definitely makes more sense after some experience!!!!
It's a legacy thing, designed for working with film and editing for broadcast. Film needs the spinup time and broadcast needs test signals/buffer time. Starting at 1 hour is just the least intrusive way of doing it. Thankfully it can be disabled.
Click at the top Davinci Resolve > User > Editing > Start Timecode and change it there.
Also, you can do all your editing in the Edit tab rather than the Cut tab, the Cut tab is kind of simplified blocking footage out, but you can just go right to the Edit tab which might be more familiar
Like in the Edit tab I can put things together with layers similar to working in Premiere.
Simple things like text and shapes are under the Effects menu, like if you want a solid color to work with. You can change scale position and cropping on the settings for any clip too.
And Resolve 20 just got a keyframes tab that works like Premiere too, so you can animate the position of something and then adjust the curve of that motion to give it easing and stuff.
The thing that gave me the most trouble was understanding Fusion, that's like your After Effects things but it doesn't work in terms of layers. It works on top of the whole clip. You're making an effects chain that will apply to the whole clip footage (which you can then copy/paste apply to all
But this goes for doing more advanced things with shapes and text too. Say you want to put a black circle over your footage, you can make the shape in Fusion and use a Merge node to apply it over the footage of the clip. If you want to animate it, you can do it there too.
if you switch to the edit tab (the one with the red line piercing through these green and blue lines) there should be a little area with a slider where you can zoom in

Preferences > User > Editing > New Timeline Settings > Start timecode > set to 00:00:00:00.
for existing timelines, right-click them and go to Timelines > Starting Timecode...
if you thought that was weird, quicktime starts at 2hrs 😭

In the Edit tab, you can Alt+Scroll to zoom in and out horizontally. Shift+Scroll to zoom vertically, and Ctrl+Scroll to pan
