The sudden surge in immigration in Britain is a phenomenon from three or five years ago; it is hard to believe that business needs have changed so dramatically and so quickly.

The political situation would probably stabilize with net immigration in the range of one hundred to two hundred thousand.

Maybe it's not migration per se that makes the "not very racists but anti-migration minded people" angry but the feeling that politicians do nothing about it? Maybe some performative authoritarianism works (for a certain time and a certain demographic)?
