this is the first paper what will need to be a bigger project. a few interesting threads to follow up on:

1. the line between "political shows" and "apolitical shows" in the podcast space is super blurry, tons of incidental exposure to politics

2. there's some suggestive evidence in the paper (and a little more in the SI, shown here) consistent with sorting around credentialed expertise / elite institutions, especially when you look at the politics-*adjacent* blocks

3. conservatives aren't wrong to notice that liberal and mainstream commentary are better-integrated with each other -- so much so that liberal and mainstream shows(/guests) only get sub-divided in lower levels of the network model. mechanism there has a long history that predates these data

4. theoretically, when we think about podcasts I think the intuitive analogy is talk radio, but I think we should be thinking at least as much along the lines of blogs and social media: low barriers to entry; platform-based hosting; tons of user choice in what to listen to, when, and where

Very cool stuff! I find similar results when I look at more traditional forms of engagement (think tank hiring and event participant patterns) in my book. Love the idea of podcasts as data. Looking forward to seeing more!
