especially if they're so often blown out of the water by small teams and solo devs. like "[new indie game] is [AAA game] but good" is a common youtube headline in no small part because like... it's held embarrassingly true

I understand it stings, especially for the devs who grew up and loved a lot of these games, but IMO its not worth holding it against the people who are disillusioned with the lack of quality from companies that should know better
I would say the issue here is that if you want to criticize some ongoing classic's more recent work, it's best saving that for a time when you aren't also discussing a new game inspired by it. Nobody in that conversation walks out looking good and you're as likely to turn diehard fans off as on.
