They're currently under the iron fisted rule of people like Zaslav & his ilk (Who are embezzling from their studios while pleasing their extreme-right wing master Musk)
They should've cut the rest of the film to spare everyone's disappointment at h utterly dreadful it was.
For the record, Denzel does actually kiss one of the guys in the movie and is openly bisexual in a couple of scenes too, so it isn't a full on censoring.
Spartacus had a gay subplot, and had cuts - but that was over 60 years ago! Homosexuality was illegal in the UK then!
In 2024 we have gay kisses on kids TV. It’s no longer an issue.
Ridley Scott’s not going to be happy about it if he planned to include it.
Hollywood needs those sweet international dollars. A gay kiss will keep the movie from being shown in China, the Middle East, and some other regions. It sucks, but they care more about money than art. 🤷🏼♀️
Talk to your acquaintances about their homophobia. Let people know (respectfully) you support the freedom to love whomever you want to love. Representation in Hollywood is important, but human communication more so
AAAHHHH!
Homosexuality in the Roman Empire!
We can't let the illiterates find out about that or they might discover the real meaning of the Jesus' reaction to the Centurion's slave.
I do not understand how anyone could possibly be offended by a kiss. Why even label it gay. The film shows the full gamete of human life in so many other respects. I'm sure British audiences would not have even batted an eyelid if it remained in the film.
As I understand it, Denzel is one of those actors who actors who won’t kiss a woman onscreen because he feels like he’s being unfaithful to his wife. Fair enough I suppose. But it’s okay for him to kiss a man?
Sounds like it didn’t have much to do with the plot - he says he kills him “it was the kiss of death.” I also read this as Denzel being so proud of himself. Yawn. It’s disingenuous. I’m glad they didn’t include the pandering. There are some real gay scenes in some real Roman Empire movies.
If Denzel, a practicing Pentecostal (I believe), kissed another man I'm sorry it didn't make the cut. But damn, thank you Mr. Washington for being a standup for that community! Bravo!
They're so afraid of being "cancelled" or "go woke go broke". I for one love to see what the writers intended regardless of how it makes you feel. That's the point.
So THE Denzel Washington did the kiss and Ridley Scott left that on the cutting room floor?! I can't even put into words how outrageously stupid that choice was.
My husband taught Ancient Greek & Latin, and educated me about the very common practice of homosexuality among the Roman soldiers & gladiators. It's ridiculous any filmmakers would not include it in their movie.
What the hell is happening with ppl in America... the paranoia of these ppl has gotten out of control...comedians can't tell jokes without offending ppl, etc...ppl need to just chill out !!!
I'm glad to be honest. I would not want to see *him* do that. I was wondering which character had their kiss cut because I had read about it in passing.
Makes me wonder how much of history was buried because the historians or others found the records distasteful or inconvenient, etc. beyond the victors rewriting history.
How much of homophobia is due to people not learning about historical examples like Sacred Band of Thebes?
Hollywood better get a backbone and a few proper history books, once they start to bend to the bigots it's harder to stand up straight for what's correct.
It's a shame, they are happy to show men kissing each others hands and cheeks in this film, even showing one mans longing for the other to actually kiss him, but a full kiss between 2 men was considered too much.
So we entering a new more twisted form of the Hays Code and McCarthyism blend. Oh my... Who will stand strong and be the heros in this era? It will be interesting to watch. Hint...watch who is already standing up now in the media and in Hollywood, entertainment industry fearlessly.✌🏼💙Thank you George
As a straight person, I still can't see why 'normal' folks are afraid of anything LGBTQ+. We're all just people, right? Kind and helpful to others doesn't know gender identity, religion or color. Kids have to be taught prejudice - they're not born with it.
The rule is very clear, folks: Do Not Obey In Advance. It’s incredibly disheartening to see Hollywood already starting to twist itself to fit MAGA’s twisted and hypocritical morality.
My advice: if you have any media you treasure that includes #LGBTQ themes: buy it on physical media if you can, as soon as possible. I hope things don’t fall that far, but at the same time: Do not expect streaming services to keep carrying them.
As Trump’s economic policies fail, and his deportation camps prove unworkable, they will look for new scapegoats and enemies, and supposed “immorality” in media will be an easy, and it seems maybe even willing, victim.

Not even to make a political statement, or some avant garde piece if art
But to simply say, "It's OK to love"

I love you George, but this was going to start sooner or later if Trump won. No one wants to be censored due to project 2025

I'd add "doing better" should also mean not doing sequels for perfect standalone movies and creating something new.
To seek out new stories and new characters. To boldly go where no movie has gone before!
This is heartbreaking.

This is just another example of this to throw on the pile.
We have a society of influencers that make sure they are in front of the crowd asking them where to go.
