I’ve been telling friends it feels like maga is payback for Obama bc that is how deep racism goes for some people. Haters LOVE to hate the same people. This makes sense. This guy is more optimistic than me though - I fear America’s greed and apathy have finally caught up to her.
When Obama was elected, I started getting those multi-forwarded emails from even my dearest friends with wild theories about him. I was shocked. I realized then that his election had triggered something really awful. I had no idea how awful.
Thank you. I've been trying for a while to reassure people I know who worry for the future that the Repugnants are fighting for their lives. They are facing their end. The MAGA states are not bastions. They're retreats.
This Repugnant movement didn't originate in the USA. It came here from Europe as middle level administrators and military leaders began to feel pushed out at home and saw the possibility of empire here.

Interesting theory, but I really don't think it adequately covers what's happening. I don't think this is going to all "just go away" if we simply persevere and "ignore it". I don't think MAGAts are going to learn what they're doing isn't working, I think they will just push and push and push.

So is Extinction Burst more of a "reverse psychology" thing or a "negative reinforcement" thing? I'm not quite sure I'm fully grasping the nuances here.
It's the finding out stage of "fuck around, find out", cos they're learning, slowly, that this childish anger is getting them nowhere, and will ultimately result in them actually growing up, realising they've been acting against their interests, the tantrums didn't work...
Ultimately, MAGA's big issue is that without Trump they have no central leader to rally the cult around. And he's old and not a healthy man. None of the men trying to be the next one have quite the same memetic appeal he does.
This is what I believe as well. The one thing I will give Trump is that he is an extremely rare bird in terms of his ability to lead a cult. No one else has this (disgusting) ability as he does. He won't be around long.
I think this has been going on much longer. Think Tea Party, Rush Limbaugh and Phyllis Schlafly. That's just since the civil rights movements. It's a culmination not an aberration. You don't give flu medicine to treat cancer. It's metastasized. We need to be aggressive. It's not going away.
Interesting but I’m afraid this is just “magical thinking.” The MAGA grunts have given power to oligarchs, so it’s not about them anymore. Once power and wealth are completely consolidated, it’s a different ballgame.

It's so nice to make an observation that sounds a little nutty and then hear someone else has made similar observations and come to similar conclusions. Makes me feel a little less crazy. Altho when I think of repubs thoughts on this, I land on their view of gods view of them and their entitlement.
That's what I thought the 2024 election was going to be. The final nail in the coffin so we could put all this BS behind us. I don't know what to think now.

This is an interesting theory. However, I’m not sure if it’s supported by history. While I will concede that the world as a whole is more free than it was a century ago, I see no clear reason to believe that the pendulum won’t swing back. Russia, Hungary, Turkey, Venezuela, etc etc.
