My brother in law succumbed to an aggressive form of ALS, lasting only 16 mths from time of diagnosis.
If you can imagine your whole muscular structure completely wasted away, unable to even support your jaw in place, that's what happens.
Such a great guy, gone in 16 mths like that. A horror story.
I lost my “other brother” to ALS ….. i don’t have words for how cruel of a disease strikes people in their prime with so much life yet to live, young children needing them. The universe lost an immeasurably bright star the day he died. And he is just one of millions. 💔
The sad thing is, the only thing I think of when I see ALS mentioned is ice bucket challenges, people never seemed to bother explaining why they were doing it other than it being a trend, and yet, ALS is a horrible way to go, degenerative illness is a cruel killer...
ALS is one of the worst diseases out there. We knew a woman in her 40s who got it. She had a 12 year old daughter and had just enrolled to go back to school when she got diagnosed. Several agonizing months later, after losing all her bodily functions, she died. So tragic.
Such a sad story, loved him in "the last ship" he was a bad ass captain. But since America elected a president who wants to wipe out all of research and scientists, these things are only gonna get worse
The motor neuron diseases are the most cruel diseases going. Recent breakthroughs were just made on Parkinson's drugs, which is a related disease, so I hope he is able to find some benefit from them.
My mother died of ALS in 1983... diagnosed in 1980 ... first noticed on the tennis course when she was unable to slide to her left for a backhand shot. Horrible disease.
It is awful! I worked in a clinic and this poor man was being wheeled out. The doctor's medical assistant hurried behind him and was going to stop him to schedule his next annual appointment. The doc had to stop her and when the man left just kind of sadly said "He won't be here for the next one."
