I am sure they won't be sold exclusively to smokers. But they have been in the market in USA for 10 years and never got over 3% current use among youth. Would you rather non-smokers were vaping or using nicotine pouches?

Lol you know I don't agree. They are not necessary for me or you, but some people like to use nicotine products (like I choose to use caffeine products). While deadly cigarettes are widely available, I support adult availability of far less harmful alternative nicotine products.

What about when US smoking rates hit zero Dr. Foulds? I know you think about that. 45 million US adults currently use tobacco or nicotine products (deadly and safer). Do you think they'll just stop?

I think cigarette smoking prevalence could go below 5% in 10 years and be replaced by much less harmful products. If all those less harmful products were banned tomorrow it would take much longer and cause many to die early or suffer unnecessarily

I'm more opitimistic Dr. Foulds. I think US adult use of deadly cigarettes will be in the rear view mirror in 9-10 years.

I agree. Sales and use trends for old-fashioned death sticks suggest smoking may be even lower than 5% in 10 years.

It is difficult to step away from the "nicotine is evil" narrative that Tobacco Control has pushed (for good reasons, to discourage smoking) for the past 4 decades. But it is time to set that paternalistic lie aside now.

They will be sold to legal ADULTS who want to use nicotine to quit smoking, or as a #nootropic (cognitive enhancer), or as a mild non-intoxicating stimulant that reduces stress and anxiety. And to adults with #neurodiversity issues (because nicotine reduces their symptoms).
