I guess 95% of Apple users have never turned on this feature (you have to opt in, it isn’t an out of the box feature) and probably don’t even know it exists! So for most of us it has no practical impact.
I see a lot of Tory voters that voted for tory plenty times after 2016 when the law was passed and was used plenty times si ce then. Those voters never blinked. Now Labour use it and the sky falls down. It’s not me the one who treats it as a team sport
Hopefully mostly the one who wrote it and used it for 10 years and wanted us out of EU to avoid restrictive EU privacy laws and today wants us out of the ECHR because again they don’t like Human Rights.
It is a new level of authoritarianism - a private key, your personal property, is being undermined by the state. IDGAF if it’s team red or team blue who’s doing it.
It is exactly the point. They have written it, voted and used it since 2016. You may even voted Tory after then. But you complaining only now 10 years later because a Labour government is also using it on something that you have to actively turn on on your phone and you may not even know existed.
Existing users 'keep' it because Apple legally can't disable e2e encryption of user data themselves. Apple will stipulate in updated terms of service that those users must disable the feature themselves within a given grace period, and failure to do so will allow them to close your account entirely.
This makes me wonder what Google would do, if my government asked them to provide free access to encrypted Google Drive data under a law which legally prevents them from revealing the demand.
And it makes me wonder whether that request is in the future or the past.
Seriously?
The British government has been spying on British citizens for ages.
With the help of private companies and service providers - mostly for no reason and without any success in preventing crimes, murders, terrorism.
Just like stalking and watching.

Whether it’s new or not is besides the point.

They’re Here! You’re Next!🫣
