and to be honest so predictable. They are like stuck records obsessed with immigration trying to please the racists and xenophobes in the UK - to be honest I am getting really bored of this shit
They are never going to out-Reform Reform. All they are doing is degrading and diminishing themselves, and hurting the people they should be protecting
I agree - its just a ludicrous strategy - they are losing much more voters to the LibDems and Greens pursuing the racist vote - Starmer was never very inspirational but I never imagined he was this stupid.....
did you have to earn your place to live in the UK? shameful how entitled ppl become. was only a matter of luck and geography that Starmer was born in UK instead of some shanty town in another country. we are looking at immigrants/otherppl all wrong. everyone belongs everywhere. period. smh.
Throwing migrants under the bus and trying to pander to folk who wouldn’t vote for him if he personally put a grand in their top pocket. I wasn’t hoping for much from him, and he’s still managed to be a crushing disappointment.
Labour is going to get hammered by the SNP in next year's Holyrood election and somehow will still think it lost because it hasn't aped Reform enough. For the love of God, FIRE MCSWEENEY!
Yeh,OK!
Let's watch the NHS dissolve as African and Indian health workers are banned from working in the UK.
Folk won't work the hours needed for the wages offered,
and in this world of short attention span,
no-one can foresee a seven year medical training.
Folk who want to work,
deserve to work!!!
...human rights violations, misogyny, rape and inequality. Nothing that Starmer has suggested has a real chance of improving the lives of anyone in this country. Every proposal is about fiddling at the edges of a collapsing system or taking us back to an imagined golden age that never existed.
And it's almost entirely based on malicious, incorrect information pushed online and by the right-wing press. It's made up. Pure fantasy stuff. As almost all the right-wing stuff has been for decades in this country. Which is why our country has become a basket-case of...
Take today's announcement: almost everyone is utterly shocked that Labour is willing to risk the existence of universities and social care on a decision to cut immigration that will not appeal to the voters it is aimed at, who think Starmer protects Muslim pedophiles from prosecution.
Oh my god, yes, this is very familiar territory. Democrats also keep courting mythical "center right" Republicans who miss the Reagan/Thatcher era. But like, these people call them Demonrats and believe that Jewish people control the weather. They don't want to vote Democrat.
Oh, and one last thing: it's fairly clear that outright war is brewing in the Labour Party over Starmer's actions. Huge amounts of their supporters have quit, and many who've remained are not remotely happy at the behaviour of the leadership. They're a disaster, and it's going to get far, far worse.
I'm signed off work with stress because my brain keeps telling me to kill myself, and haven't left the house in almost a month, but given I will have to leave at some point, there is no chance of me remaining safe in this country.
I'm sorry. It's tough enough being the kind of queer that you can lie about to doctors, I can't imagine that level of stress. I hope you find some support or safety.
Not only that, but whilst delivering massive cuts to the NHS and public sector, Starmer's government have taken excessive amounts of freebies from donors. I'd call him a monster, but that honestly suggests he has agency in all this, when really he's just a puppet for McSweeney and Blue Labour.
And, as a trans woman, he's personally stripped me of my human rights, and has probably broken our international human rights agreements in doing so, resulting in the LGBTQ+ community, most of whom were staunch Labour supporters before this, turning on him.
Seems like Labour and the Democrats both had leadership that wanted to make sure the overton window shifts right and expectations stay low. If only actual left wing worker's parties had power that wouldn't get immediately commandeered by the lackies of billionaires .
In all likelihood, Reform wins the next election, the country turns very dark for five years, before they're ousted and we get actual centre-left government who turn everything around from the ashes. But, by then, as a trans woman, I'll be dead.
Well, that's why people are turning instead to the Greens and Lib Dems. Labour could've been the party of power for two decades if they'd stuck to their values, but now they're likely to die with the Tories. They don't seem to realise how existential this crisis is.
Meanwhile, he has responded to huge loss at the local elections by:
- Insisting that pensioners don't deserve heating in winter
- Encouraging immigration from India and launching an attack on immigration in the UK
- And insisting they need to go further and faster on policies people voted against.
By siding with Islamophobes over Gaza, anti-trans hate groups over trans rights, anti-immigration rioters over immigration, people who don't believe in mental health or disability over benefits, and Rachel Reeves economic plans have already been torn up once, with worsening austerity as a result.
But that his unelected Chief-of-Staff, Morgan McSweeney is actually running the country and Starmer is merely wheeled out to do his bidding. Which only makes Starmer look weaker and stupider by the day. So far, he has repeated begged people to take the heat out of the culture wars...
... their supporters when Trump wasn't in power. Meanwhile, probably 80% of the country are furious at Labour for giving in to Farage and legitimising his views on every single matter. But you can barely blame Starmer - his own staff have leaked that he isn't in charge...
But, if Labour reverse course, they worry about what Trump will do, and they worry about how that will affect the Reform vote, given that Reform's supporters tried to burn down the country last year. So, being cowards, this rotten cabal have decided to appease Reform, who hate them for jailing...
Whilst the left and centre of the British public do not support moving to the right in this manner because that isn't what they voted for. As a result, everyone is crying betrayal because Starmer, McSweeney and Blue Labour have literally betrayed EVERYONE.
Damn, sounds a little like the Democrats except if they were actually on the left, if they had actually made any promises, and if they had actually won.
The problem is, though, that Labour has traditionally been, and campaigned on being, the centre-left party that America has never had. Now, the right of politics in the UK don't trust Labour for their decades of being left-leaning and progressive, whatever they do...
This was encouraged by the Blue Labour movement, the leader of which was invited to attend Trump's inauguration, and whose members support his clearly fascist values. Now, Labour has chosen to follow in lock-step with Trump, no matter the cost.
Labour assumed Joe Biden would win the next US election, and had pinned their hopes on close ties with America to help their plans. However, when it became clear Trump was going to win, they pivoted hard to support the MAGA cause, and get closer ties with the Republican Party.
This is likely because the Tories had spent five years putting political supporters into apolitical roles, such as managing the BBC, doing jobs in the civil service, and managing various "independent organisations" across the UK, such as the EHRC. But, there is another twist...
However, because they hadn't expected to win, they'd spent the previous five years mostly not doing anything to prepare to hit the ground running. This meant that, upon taking power, they instead went with many of the plans put in place by the Tories for the next five years.
In the end, Labour won, but with small majorities, a lack of enthusiasm, no trust and far less votes than Corbyn had lost with in 2019. But McSweeney, Starmer and Blue Labour didn't care. They'd expected Starmer to lose and for Wes Streeting to take over, but they'd accept the win.
But, despite having been around 40% of the vote prior to the election, Nigel Farage returned because Piers Morgan insulted him on TV. By the day of the election, Labour's lead had been cut to 33% as people noticed Starmer was lying, as many economists and members pointed out.
With the Tories imploding, all Starmer had to do was not be them. Again, he made dozens of promises to the electorate prior to the election, and during the election, with his victory almost guaranteed, he began rolling them back. By this point, this left the Labour Party demoralised in victory.
He then used the idea of power instead of protest to force Labour's MPs to drop most of their support for progressivism, and punished them for daring to support striking workers. Then, he and McSweeney and Blue Labour began a purge of left-leaning members of the party.
On top of that, they deliberately sabotaged Corbyn's Labour Party during the 2019 General Election. Starmer was selected as their new candidate, and after Corbyn lost, Starmer promised Corbyn-like socialism to get elected. Almost immediately, he tore up the promises he made.
Let me explain: during the Jeremy Corbyn years, an extreme right grouping surrounding Morgan McSweeney decided to take back the party and shut out the left for good. To do this, they amplified accusations of anti-semitism and consistently leaked them to McSweeney's friends in the right-wing press.
Just vile nonsense. This labour government is determined to be as unpopular as possible with every section of the country. All they do is pick fights with various sub sections of people. Just a government devoid of imagination, talent and basic humanity.
Stramer follows other European leaders by futilely stopping refugees. Instead of taking good climate and environmental measures, so people can live where they want, which is often in their home country.
Pathetic man. He's not going to outflank Reform on the far right, and he's just turning off all Labour's remaining voters. No wonder his polls have tanked.
Yeah man I’m an “AI leader” as in I peddle a bunch of bullshit but I do so with an air of unbearable smugness. Give me permanent citizenship now please
As an American who has watched Democrats go down this road, I can say that no one wants fascism-lite. Your base sure AF doesn’t, and the right wing will always vote for full-on fascism if they can.
I mean it's not like Labour ran on a particularly liberal platform in the last election. We're getting exactly what we (collectively, not me) voted for.
?? Isn’t that how permanent residency assessments work? Why do politicians with clearly extensive professional background and qualifications end up acting like a lobotomised Donald Trump when it comes to this type of stuff?
So we have yet another country effectively telling people who are too ill or disabled to make money that they will be denied their human right to live somewhere (relatively) safe. This would appear to be breaching UK laws as well as treaty commitments.
JFC, with the state of the country & the hostility migrants receive, am constantly amazed anyone still *does* want to come here.
This sort of rhetoric disgusts me. Not in my name, Starmer.
Too bad the native Americans couldn't do that to all the white Europeans who came here and slaughtered them and stole their lands. Entitled elitist hypocrites.
I'd love to see the same applied to Brits who move abroad. I guess Europe isn't as bloody xenophobic as this @labouruk.bsky.social cum #reform #shame . What's the objective? To keep non English speaking foreigners away? How low you have fallen...
The exploitation of the 3rd world is what creates the circumstances which lead to migration away from those 3rd world countries. These people are blaming the bed for shitting itself.

Also, you probably still live in "Big Virginia". Take it up with King James...

I’ll wait…
Ugggh I've not been following UK stuff, are they as bad at the USA now?
