I could see it as a fun roguelike where upgrades can stack onto each other and the levels scale accordingly. A little more involved than the usual "number go up" style games just by virtue of being breakout

This reminds me a lot of Blasterball 2 and 3 which I remember playing a lot as a kid - power ups could be a coincidence/inspired by another Breakout game with power ups, but it definitely gave me that Blaster all vibe as soon I saw the Ghost item

And no, that's NOT a bad thing.

Looks juicy as hell! Right now though, it is lacking a hook/unique appeal. If "on steroids" is the hook, I think you need to pump a lot more steroids into it. You've got a great foundation here! I would play it if it had a significant twist on the formula.

that's pretty much the reason why i scrapped it years ago. i tried to come up with ideas to spice up the concept but none of them were good enough imo, and even if i pump more steroids there simply are flashier breakout clones out there
