Same! And mine say it back, it’s so natural that my highschool age son does it just to call to ask for a ride. One time I overheard his friend say, “you tell your mom you love her EVERY time you talk to her? And he just responded, “yes! You don’t????” 🥰

Super Bowl Sunday ‘17, my daughter and I got into an argument via phone - she was living 1500 mi. away w/boyfriend who was unkind & I was begging her to come home. BUT we ended the call with our usual words of love. 12 hours later, police informed me of her death. ALWAYS tell them you love them!

When we got married thirty years ago, I told my husband we WILL say “I love you” every night before we go to sleep and every morning before work. He asked why and I told him those are the two times when we are apart. He died shortly after I told him good night sweetheart, I love you. 1 hour later.

I do that too, BUT my parents never did that as I was growing up. And I had amazing parents! I never felt like they didn't love me; it was always clear that they did. The same was true of my grandparents-words they never used.

I'm not sure that the mere verbalization is that important.

My father never even said goodbye before ending a phone call. He'd just hang up when he was done saying what he had to say. But..... I was one of five children and I don't think any of us ever doubted for one minute that he loved us.

I disagree. Constantly overusing it diminishes its value and importance. Just like when ambulance uses sirens and lights for nonemergency then it makes it less impactful for when it really matters.

My husband recalls the first time he remembered hearing these words “I love you” from his parents. It was as he was being sent to fight in one of the US wars in the Middle East.
Don’t wait until you think you’re gonna lose them, tell them now
