Are these people just never concerned with how objectively wrong AI so often is? I've had many online meeting transcripts delivered to my inbox where the bot misattributed quotes, quoted me saying the exact opposite of what I actually said, etc. It's worse that worthless; it's actively doing harm!

The more you offload key parts of the process to someone or something else, the less able you are to engage in high-level thinking. He thinks it's making him more efficient, it's actually making him more incapable.

So much of knowledge work is not illustrated knowing things but knowing you know them (e.g. the person who buzzes in in Jeopardy because they know they know the top8c but don't yet have the answer, and figure it out live).

Overreliance on AI is going to actively destroy that knowledge from some.

There are a lot of good books, podcasts, etc. about the beguiling allure of "efficiency" and how it's much more of a mirage than an achievable goal. Generally, people are better off focusing on fewer things and trying to do these things better.

Original research, especially, is an area where *you cannot make the process highly efficient*: by its very nature, you're working at the edge of human knowledge, and there are no shortcuts.

This is something that a lot of people struggle with in graduate school: they're used to making linear progress on problems they've been assigned all of their lives in school / college, and all of the sudden, they're face to face with something where progress is very intermittent and nonlinear.

For most of the work I've done that I'm the most proud of, the "wow, I'm making good progress" portion is <5% of the overall time I spent on the project. Probably <1%. Much of the rest is being confused & doing reading/thinking. It looks like wasted time but it's what makes the breakthrough possible

There’s a huge category error in thinking that automated assistant-programs are anything like staff who you can trust to use their own experience/expertise to make certain decisions and to know when to escalate issues for consultation.

Also, if AI is used frequently for summarizing and spoon feeding content tidbits, the content creator gets no money, and eventually there is less content for AI to summarize and disseminate. If Satya likes a podcast, he should listen to it, or give them money.

(2) is a really key point and worth expanding upon.

Complex thinking like problem solving is not a just bs number you are born with. It very much can be trained, same as muscles.

The point of engineering school is not to fill your mind with facts, but rather make it a problem solving machine.

The same is true for creativity, it is trained with use. Really just about everything our mind can do. Even memory can be trained.

Like muscles, complex thinking requires maintenance or it will decline, and peak performance requires years of training.
