I understand that but don't you think it is dangerous to chop off organs because someone thinks they are transgender too young. Maybe they had a bad Dr. Let them be what they want to be until they are older and can choose for themselves. Therapy and adulthood can be their time for choosing this.

You're using some pretty value-laden language here. These decisions aren't being made precipitously. Generally long periods of social transition, nonsurgical medical intervention, and therapy before GRS, if surgery *ever* occurs. You think Aetna just springs for this on a whim?

That’s EXACTLY what doctors have done based on outdated theories. In the 50s and 60s doctors believed children are “psychosexually neutral” until 2 years old and “unambiguous genitalia” and parental nurturing the chosen gender assigned it. I think if we are worried about bad doctors we should focus on getting better doctors, or better therapy to make sure they're making the right choice. If there are problems, let's fix them rather than giving up.

I was trans and I knew at 10.

For the kids born with both. Theirs varying degrees of this. We were talking about Transgender. Something no one can see. I'm not saying it isn't real, but if some should wait to chose so should the other. I don't think young girls should get breast enhancements either.

Do not use the suffering of the intersex community against the trans community, especially if you're neither trans nor intersex.

There's a huge difference between a non-consenting surgery on an infant, and hormone therapy on a 16 or 17 year old after therapy and counseling.

People have done surgical interventions on the human body for thousands of years. There was a successful and healed amputation of a child's lower leg that occurred 31,000 years ago.

Intersex surgeries have been done since the 1700s at least.

Surgeries aren't a new invention.

If women take testosterone they develop a small penis. That's just how HRT works. There's not much of a difference physiologically between the clitoris and the penis, and testosterone enlarges it.

Surgery may be used to enhance size, appearance and function, but HRT is all that's required.

You are mixing sex and gender. The development of sex characteristics is more complicated than just chromosomes. Certain mutations can lead to insensitivity to hormones and sex characteristics can develop differently than expected by chromosomes alone.
