Billionaire co-founder of AirBnB Joe Gebbia has joined Elon Musk’s DOGE team, so let’s spread awareness and make sure nobody books a goddamn thing through AirBnB ever again, shall we?

AirBnB rates went crazy & they charge for everything. They destroyed communities by buying up houses & renting at exorbitant rates.I’ve severely cut down my travel especially to red states.Stay home & spend the money in your local towns with local amusements.Quit finding corporations & billionaires
Could never understand why people allow these techies to eat from their table. Good properties let themselves a get repeat bookings every year direct with owner
No one needs Air BnB. The best thing for everyone who objects to the way things are going to do is just stop buying things they don't need. Stop using services that you don't require. Check out from their economy & their economy will crash. Stop vacationing, stop buying non-essentials.
Greed Syndrome
Greedy people lack empathy, are never satisfied, are manipulative, are selfish. They will compromise their moral values and ethics to achieve their goals.
Oligarchs are anti-democracy.
Apart from him obviously being a horrible person and that he should be put out of business as soon as possible for the good of society. Can we talk about why he is wearing a pyjamas?
Hi Chris - reading the NY Times article about Gebbia is alarming. According to the article Gebbia is a former supporter of Hilary Clinton and Biden and other good things. How has he come under the spell of Musk? Any informed explanations out there?
Hey folks, did you know that when you deactivate your Airbnb account at https://www.airbnb.com/account-delete/reasons you are asked why, and if you pick "Other" as the reason you get a little box to write in...
swapping airbnb for facebook marketplace? I've tried to cut down on the multinationals, but it just isn't possible without literally turning off the internet. Then who has won?
Fairpoint and agreed. But there aee plenty of lodging apps besides airbmb and fb marketplace. And fb is just lame now with no factchecking we can do away with them both. Saving our deomcracy is not gonna be easy.
This isn't going to save your democracy. You'll just make more Billionaire CEOs, and I can guarantee they are pretty much all going to be Right Wing. The harder you try and go down this boycott route, the more you will lose out, or just look hypocritical. I've no idea what the answer is by the way.
I dunno, i think our only recourse right now is to hit them in their pocketbooks.people feel helpless this is one way to make a difference. We do have spending power.
For the record all deactivating does is lock you out of your own account, they keep your data and everything. Deleting your account is a separate thing.
Unfortunately I just deleted my account and chose 'other' as the reason but it didn't give me the option to write anything 😕 Was looking forward to writing something. Guess you can only do that when you deactivate your account.
The app. I know there are two options...One to deactivate and another to delete. If you deactivate it allows you to reactivate...If you delete, it is permanent.
Originally it was just that I'm just not a fan of staying in strangers' houses. And then the the professional Air b'nbers came in and started charging exhorbitant "cleaning fees" while also requiring you to clean before you leave, and other shady practices and . . . nope. I'll take the hotel.
I once had a flight delay that landed me in the middle of the night, and the Airbnb host refused to leave their home to let me in and leave me keys.
Nope.
Nope. Not only that, but I vented at the owner, but then just dealt with it (after looking for alternate lodging but found none due to holiday surge).
THEY wrote up a bad review of ME, and when I confronted them in a later email..
Wreaking havoc in the capitals of European countries, anyway. Tourists, influencers and remote-working expats from the US, in particular, being able to pay horrendous prices and thus making it impossible for natives from places like Lisboa, Barcelona or Amsterdam to find an apartment.
You are so right. So far looking for options to Airbnb and have not found anything that is not tethered to the right. Going to email nearby military bases to see about offering accommodation to rent for personnel.
But this is on Vancouver Island. Don’t know how different it would be in the US.
I would love to see Airbnb owners(not just customers) send a strong message to this Airbnb wingnut...Get rid of him or you'll take your business elsewhere.
That’s absolutely right, Kelli. I just had the unfortunate experience of an exchange with a guy who thinks they’re doing this to get money back to the taxpayers. I tried to explain that was never going to happen. He was too ignorant to listen. Some people are just so far gone. It’s crazy.
Yea that’s NOT happening Chris - not now and not as long as Conald is in office. He’s made NO effort to put in legislation for the middle and lower class. Why? Because they aren’t billionaires and he just wants their vote
Musk is milking Trump for $ while Musk is supposed to be finding where to cut. Kennedy is using his position to set up “wellness farms” and I’m sure it will cost a fortune. The whole administration is just out for themselves
I hate this because I am an Airbnb owner and the income has saved my ass on numerous occasions when tenants have decided to either not pay rent or cause thousands of damages on their way out. I like being able to offer super cute units for $65/night in OKC to travelors.
I have tried, VRBO bookings, at least in Oklahoma are almost non existent. I do rent to travel nurses on Furnished Finders for several months at a time which is great, but when it's empty I'll use Airbnb to fill in the gaps.
I'm not a guru, I dont own everything in site and work 50+hrs a week to have something to retire with. I hate Airbnb hosts get grouped into everyone else when most of us are just trying to get by like everyone else. AIRBNB customer service is awful to hosts but there's no real competitor either.
So far no luck. My son and I were checking out VRBO and expedia and others. Every one is tied to Trump properties and right wing companies. It’s a holiday here tomorrow but I am going to email nearby military bases to advertise in their newsletters to offer accommodation.
You are all spectacular✨️

Booking is just as crappy. More or less extorting hotels to use them, as google will favour booking over the official hotel site. Also, hotels have to pay to get mentioned on booking. Book straight with the hotels, better conditions and if something's wrong with your reservation , a direct contact.
Literally just cancelled an AirBnB reservation and booked on VRBO. Thank you for spreading awareness. Now, can we please get a guillotine emoji? #letthemeatcake
Ah, yes! Boycott the overpriced stay in someone else’s barely-cleaned house! Embrace the chaos—sleep in your car, pitch a tent in the woods, or better yet, come stay with me. No fees, just eternal commitment!
Already refuse to use them after hearing stories of renters being evicted so landlords can make more from Airbnb.
They contribute to the housing crisis
Good bye, Airbnb. Used to use it frequently as an alternative to hotels but few years ago their pruces have gone up so much i stopped using them and now this.
Although I am not a supporter of Musk or the Man-Baby President, this post frustrates me...I receive a lot of my retirement income through my Airbnb. I also post on VRBO...but Airbnb brings in a much higher % of my income. So, posting not to book through Airbnb hurts ME, not the co-founder. Ugh!
Though he “retired” he lives off of his massive shares of the company that exasperated the housing crisis be having millions of investors buy houses that could be homes but now are just vacation toys for the people who still have wealth.
I don't know how you can boycott them, as tempting as it is. Google, Amazon, Facebook, Airbnb, Microsoft? Apple? We are totally dependant on these multinationals for a reason, usually convenience. Then many of the "smaller" firms are brands hidden behind multinationals.
Microsoft/Apple.. see what I mean. We can boycott, but we'll just create another billionaire, who is likely to be just as bad, while hampering our own lives in the process.
plus what's the point, they'll still be evil with more money than they can ever spend! We might as well benefit as well if they have the best deals, and pay the workers / BnB owners
I hate AirBnB. I haven’t used it intentionally but here I have showed up to places that look nothing like the pictures. Even show good reviews. In fact I prefer to camp if that is an option when I travel.
Oddly, he belongs to a fashion club called Mr. Porters Style Council where a bunch of rich guy brag about spending way to much money on bad clothes and recommend fancy hotels and restaurants to each other. So why does he belong in the “efficiency department”? https://www.mrporter.com/en-us/style-council/members?limit=12
A perfect example of digital middling. AirBnB does nothing except use their muscle to control a marketplace. It's a stupid idea to give every rando the right to run a hotel. It's an end run around regulation.
Never used it anyway. Always hated how the tech companies cheapened us. They bankrupted small taxi companies that needed expensive medallions and anyone else who stood in their way.
What are the alternatives? It seems like all the hotel chains are bad, too. I used to be a part of Trusted House Sitter; maybe that is a good place, perhaps? Person to person sharing apps would be good!
Look, I have been in the hotel industry for 25 years. Everything, and I mean everything, is owed by 4 companies. Booking, Hilton, Marriott, IHG. Every website that is related to hospitality is owned by them. It is 2 late.
You are correct. It is not even American companies. Looking at stock ownership and boards of directors. You can summ it up to a few companies. BlackRock, State Street, and Berkshire Hathaway. Ex. Everything eyes related is luxotica. Everything, any glasses, any frame.
Their outfits are even cooler when you can see them full-length: (Getty Images, Met Gala 2023). What is the wealth sweet spot where you can afford things but haven't lost your mind yet?
Anyone can, really. Matter of fact, I got my favourite jackets and coats while volunteering at food and clothing banks (with their permission of course, they're clear about that).
To be fair, this was an individual move by Gebbia, not by Airbnb. Gebbia co-founded Airbnb and is still on its board, but not CEO. Current CEO Brian Chesky is a close friend of Barack Obama. (Not endorsing, just reporting.)
I was a host for 3 years, and they never provided any help, but I only regarded it as a reservation and payment service. I knew that they never had to worry about making enough to make mortgage payments but many small hosts did. They just turned it over to the condo mgrs.
He’s a major shareholder, but “In July 2022, Gebbia stepped down from his full-time operating role at Airbnb, while remaining on the board of directors in an advisory role.[42] In September 2022, Gebbia was appointed by Tesla, Inc. to its board of directors.”
The dirty secret is…business, especially big business, wastes a fuck ton of money (tech term) from the boss’ pet projects, to bad ideas, to opening an office where a director wants to live. But that’s okay, it’s their money. Just don’t let them tell you they know how to economize.

But agree, no AirBnB
We'll be judged by what we leave behind,
the pile of garbage we created,
the destruction to the housing economies for your personal gain.
You won't be there but your garbage and decisions will be.
Just sayin'

Gosh, that looks like crap. It's a shame that a few billion can't buy taste.
BAN AirBnB
Can somebody please recommend some alternatives to Airbnb? I wanna rent rooms living with other people, not entire places.
is the way.
I'd look better shopping at Goodwill.
They are not adding these technocrat billionaires randomly.
