With a son you keep him from getting a girl pregnant. With a daughter, you keep her from letting a guy get her pregnant and she’s the one who gets stuck with the choice when it happens and it’s a hell of a lot easier for a guy to nope out of that situation.
And learn how to look out for themselves and be selective of who she sleeps with. Good parenting does that but lazy doesn’t. Lazy will go the route of being restrictive
And it isn’t a boys will be boys mentality but a “men are trash and I don’t want to depend on parents raising their boys well when it just takes one to ruin my daughters life”
Or maybe we recognize that our job as parents is not to control kids but to prepare them for adulthood. I have three daughters and never micromanaged them. They’re adults now, with not one pregnancy - not even a close call - in the lot. They were taught how to make good choices and trusted to do so.
That’s literally what I said. Good parenting teaches them how to value themselves and look out for their best interests to prepare them for adulthood, lazy parenting opts for restricting their freedom “for their own good” because they don’t know how to prepare someone for independence
“With a son you keep him from getting a girl pregnant”
This focus on pregnancy feeds into the problem. How many girls get pregnant vs how many are SA’ed. It’s basically saying 👍to all the disgusting coercive and exploitative sexual interactions, so long as there is no pregnancy.
The kids I grew up with took themselves to PP for a gyno check up, or were taken to a gyno by their parents. Years before they started having sex with boys.
This was 1970s NYC. A brief moment between swinging 60s and AIDS in which a lot of parents were ok with their daughters having sex.
