1) Walgreens thought I was straight-up trolling them. I called the pharmacy and tried to ask if it was indeed only by prescription, and if yes, if they had it in stock. They routed my call back to retail because they were sure it was on the shelves in the store area.

2) My doctor did not know FC2 was by prescription now. My doctor’s nurse did not know. My doctor’s receptionist did not know. It took two weeks of phone tag and supplemental linking of the FC2 website to get a prescription.

3) When I did get a prescription, the pharmacy did not have FC2 in stock. The tech tried to type it in to order it. The pharmacist walked over and leaned to get a look. “What are you trying to order?”

“It’s a… medical device?” I asked shyly. “Oh they only have those at like one place in town,” reluctantly assured the pharmacist. I dropped my shyness like a rock and said loudly, “It’s CONDOMS.” Her eyes opened a bit wider and she stepped in for the tech, assuring me she’d call me tomorrow.

4) When I tried to pick up my prescription, the pharmacy didn’t know how to bill it, and first attempted to do it out of pocket for a parcel of 96 condoms at the price of $1500.00, and since that bounced, thought they might require a prior authorization.

Mmm, not sure that's the case - yes, condoms that go on penises are OTC, but men use internal condoms (both for assholes and for vaginas, theirs and other people's) and I'm assuming they'd have similar issues.

Yeah pretty much. Condoms used to be prescription only in Ireland until the 80s iirc. And even then only for married women! People got em from friends who'd been on holidays abroad.
