literally how we got in the situation we're in in the US now too. the media is beyond explicit, and by the time we realized it, it'd beenbought out by the biggest ghouls imaginable and could no longer be corrected while the center-right/right-leaning government attacks all other media
I think claiming the BBC are desperate for balance is wrong. It's not balance that the BBC wants, it's propagation of views that are approved of by those in positions of authority and, of course, 'engagement' with their viewers/listeners.

I disagree. I thought Emily Maitlis' speech a few years ago summed it up perfectly - the BBC ties itself in knots ensuring that all views are covered evenly, even if those views are not held evenly
Engagement isn't enough for a public broadcasting service. As it is, few believe it has any credibility in respect of politics nowadays. As for 'left wing', that depends on how far to the right the observer is. Its role politically is to inform and report on policy. On both of those, it's failing.
