I’ve been meaning to give this book another shot soon. Got 150 pages in or so years, liked it, but Got Busy. (Similar story for The Magic Mountain fwiw.)
Thank you! Just found it on Audible - 47 hours, all for 1 credit. That will last me a couple of weeks, at least, of housecleaning and dog walking. So exciting!
My mother insisted I read this as a teenager and then wanted me to re-read it as a mother and then as a crone, I'm almost out of time for the second re-read (kiddo goes off to college next year) - thanks for the reminder!
This one was on a list of favorite fictions of William T Vollman I read years ago and I meant to read it but forgot so maybe this is the reminder I need.
My dad’s 1947 copy of Volume 2. I haven’t read it but I guess I’ll get Volume 1 from the library and give it a go and if I like it, it would be fun to read this. He was of Norwegian descent and I’m half and I’ve always been curious about this book.
