I happened to be out in Austin, Texas working one 17th March. Quite a few of the Americans were puzzled as to why I wasn't "wearing the green to celebrate St. Paddy's Day"
I had to point out that
a) I'm Scottish
b) Our Patron Saint is called St. Andrew
c) In Boolean algebra, Scotland = !Ireland
Green is not just for Catholics. Northern Ireland and Rep of Ireland both wear green despite mostly Protestants supporting NI. The combined Irish rugby teams wear green. Hibernian football club in Edinburgh had alot of Irish immigrants and adopted Irish green. Hibs fans are mostly not Catholic.
