Let us start with the NSSL Field Command Vehicle. You might imagine it filled with radar screens and coordination teams. In reality, this is an ice cream truck used to fund our research (our chocolate hailcone is 💯).

The hail size descriptions you hear about on television (e.g., dime, golf ball, etc) are just for the public. Internally, we use cans of various caffeine products. That may help you better understand what it means we describe a storm as having "monster hail".
