"Motorists shouldn’t forget they are driving [potentially] deadly weapons,” says a professor in my piece. An average of 112 Americans were killed every day on US roads in 2023 — a daily plane crash. 40,000 die every year.
Bonkers that there are YouTube tutorials on how to open a Tesla’s glove box. “First thing is you’re going to click on that car icon to access the menu settings, and from there on, you’re going to go to controls, and right here is the option to open your glove box.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPhD1mgfQ-k
In a Tesla the default is that it stays locked but you can quickly unlock it with the phone app or touch screen as any Tesla owner knows.
Is this a bad thing? Shrug. There are plenty of other places like the center console to store stuff that aren’t locked. So the glove box is like a mini-safe.
My first velomobile had a horn and a bell - one of those huge DING-DONG numbers that Pashley like to fit to their bikes. I viewed the former as being just for motorists, and the latter for anyone outside of a car.
If only there were some sort of "Toot: I am here!" that didn't involve a car's horn.
And, in the UK, right handed drivers (the majority) have t tendency to reach across the steering wheel to use the touch screen with their dominant hand.
