Honestly I hope NYC Democrats consider how their choice is going to affect the national party’s brand. Neither of the two front-runners would be good for that.

It's a really weird one. Glad I don't live in NYC at the moment. I also think people forget that Eric Adams is running as an independent and could still matter after the D primary.

Bill DeBlasio was NYC mayor for 8 years and I don't think he had any impact on perception of Democrats for people outside the greater metropolitan area

When national media outlets were concentrated in NYC, before cable news, there was some extra attention to the mayor. But media has been fragmenting, in many directions.
Right now, even with all the scandals, I don't think most Americans could name the Mayor of New York.
