Historians will note that Merrick Garland's failure to swiftly prosecute Donald Trump was one of the key mistakes that led to the end of our democratic Republic. That is assuming historians are allowed to write the truth.

What if I told you Merrick Garland’s failure to quickly prosecute Trump was part of a concerted plan to allow Trump to get off all federal charges as part of a carefully scripted conspiracy to make it look like they were doing something when they had no intentions of convicting him.
It has led the MAGA's to believe that there wasn't an insurrection and Trump had no involvement or else there would have been charges. This was a real mockery in the United States that happened under Biden's watch.
I don’t think he is a member (it’s way too December and almost-2025 for me to look this up). I think he just a gave a speech there (and is therefore “inducted” or something), which is relatively common and not an ideological line to draw. I remember seeing that but I could be wrong.
HIstorians will also remember Congress didn't object to the illegal Trump electors on Jan. 6. Do NOT normalize an insurrectionist becoming president. Congress will allow us to fall into a dictatorship without a whisper of dissent. Trump did not abide by Amendment 14 & will not abide by Amendment 22.
Other countries that have had issues and they dealt with them immediately. Four years later and here we are, a shameful travesty of justice. Justice ignored is justice denied.
While lecturing other nations on democracy and bombing the shit out of others while preaching religion. Of all hypocritical actions, led by a congress full of 80 year olds who profess they should continue to "govern" bc they have soo much experience, this is an epic national failure. We deserve TFG
I put him high on my blame list but it was recently pointed out to me that SCROTUS would have tanked any convictions on appeal even if it was earlier. They’re in on the coup. It would have been satisfying to see him sweat the convictions though. Merick Garland is still a spineless POS
If Trump had a sense of humor (he does not) he would give Garland a Presidential Medal of Freedom. There is no one more responsible for Trump’s return to office than Merrick the Mild, who I sometimes picture in a gimp suit in some West Hollywood dungeon.
Not defending Garland, but Chief Justice Benedict Arnold holds primary responsibility imo. He was never gonna let a J6 trial happen before the election as evidenced by SCROTUM’s self orchestrated and egregious delays.
Don't let the judges off the hook here. They acquiesced to his petty requests & ridiculous arguments for more time as his legal strategy. They had the power to get things done before the election. Supreme Court was already in his pocket.
Eventually, they will
Even now, after centuries of glorifying Julius Caesar, it is becoming increasing recognized that he was a villain who betrayed his oath to serve, attacked what he claimed to protect, and brought 2,000 years of despotic tyranny to Europe, Middle East, & North Africa
I feel fine with putting the collapse of our democracy on the shoulders of Democrats who cried a lot but never did anything substantial to prevent fascism to gain control of America.
The SC didn't decide the immunity case until July of this year. Garland didn't appoint Smith until Nov 2022 AFTER trump had declared his candidacy. Garland started at the bottom as if this was just another normal crime investigation.
The DOJ could have handled it w/o Smith. Complete failure

I was one of the chorus singing, give him time to make the case correctly. That was a bad song.
Seeing other countries move fast to wrap up internal threats with a sound legal process just leaves me shaking my head.

And don't forget all the other historians around the world taking notes.
The GOP will not escape historical jiudgement & we're going to save our country.
