Ukraine and Russia are leaning heavily on FPV drones because they're both very low on artillery and neither side knows how to do strike warfare from the air at scale nor how to integrate it with ground maneuver. That's it.

This is also why the Russians for most of their history actively went out of their way to avoid the Soviet Army method, because their force structure was constrained by distance. War in that part of the world puts a premium on logistics, in ways that are almost invisible to the rest of it.

Why was the Sherman the main US tank in WW2 right through the end? Because we had to get whatever tank we came up with across two large oceans and so the tank could not be so big that is could not be easily loaded onto most sea transports available at the time.
