I find it useless to engage in all the "How do you feel about that protest vote or non-vote NOW?" stuff that always ends in mutual disgust here. None of us is likely to change our minds about who caused it. We're all living the results. We don't have to like each other to join hands and fight back!

A smart government wouldn't do this; art is way *more* dangerous to the government when the government isn't subsidizing it. There's less pressure to keep things safe and conformant, with the result that more satire and subversion find their way into the art.
