If Moran violated ABC's rules, whatever--that's not my issue. But the network has already shown itself willing to capitulate to Trump in the face of threats. I suspect that five years, months, or weeks from now, Moran's judgment about Miller will hold up far better than ABC's judgment about Moran.

There's one simple test that ABC should acknowledge, and it's this: Is there ample evidence in Miller's past statements and history of behavior that supports Moran's assessment? If the answer is yes, ABC should be honest about it. It can still say "But he shouldn't have told the truth THIS WAY."

It's also worth wondering if Moran deleted the post himself or was ordered by ABC to do so on the question of whether it might constitute actionable libel. No lies detected, but a private citizen can make that observation a lot more freely than a reporter, news organization or paper of record can.

But given this new environment of capitulation, it could easily end in a settlement. All the administration has to do is head-fake that it wants to go to court over this, or impose FCC sanctions, and corporate lawyers will rise to the bait and go into damage control mode.
