if anyone is good at troubleshooting sewing machines please hmu??? going to do more research but I feel like I don't have the right words. it can do a straight stitch on normal fabric no problem, and I've gotten it to stop jamming when using fur, but the needle just goes up + down an nothing happens

It's a Kenmore 385.19110. I've been trying to keep it simple with a straight stitch and playing with the stitch length between 3-4

Are you using a heavy duty needle? You might need to fiddle with the tension too

I'm guessing this is just a standard needle that came with it? I got the machine secondhand ages ago. I've tried messing with the tension but so far I've only managed to get one or two stitches in at all so it's hard to tell if it made a difference. I'll look into a new needle, thank you!

Yeah heavy duty needles will help a lot, I used to use ‘denim’ or ‘jeans’ needles for thicker materials a lot since those were easiest to get. I’m surprised the standard needle didn’t break!
